Eye Opening Experience as an International Student
Guest Author: Chiara Lazzereschi, University of Miami, CCWL Conference Coordinator 2017
As an international student I had no idea what a challenging yet rewarding experience I was going to have when I decided to attend an American college. I saw myself going to class, studying and if my VISA allowed it, possibly working. I would of never imagined that I would of been exposed to so many extra curricular and service opportunities, let alone join a sorority and become a leader in a community that to me was so foreign. By joining Greek life I surrounded myself with a community of women that support me and push me to do better. I learned to be strong and confident and put my best interest aside for the better of my chapter and the Panhellenic community as a whole. I have learned that it takes just one person to initiate change and if they lead with purpose, passion and commitment people will follow. My time at CCWL and as a Panhellenic leader in my community has made me more committed to empowering women, so much that I am now pursing a career in Student Affairs and Higher Education. Joining a sorority was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I a thankful everyday to be a part of it.
